How to Use

Step-by-step instructions
  1. 1Enter the total weight of the drone (including battery).
  2. 2Enter the number of motors.
  3. 3Enter the desired thrust-to-weight ratio (usually 2.0).
  4. 4The calculator will show the required thrust per motor.

Thrust Requirements

Calculates the required thrust per motor based on the total drone weight and the desired thrust-to-weight ratio.
Thrust/Motor = (Weight × Ratio) / Motors

Variables:

Ratio2:1 is standard for good control
MotorsNumber of motors (e.g., 4 for quad)

Example

1kg Quadcopter

Inputs:

Weight:1000g
Motors:4
Ratio:2:1

Steps:

  1. 1.Total Thrust = 1000 * 2 = 2000g
  2. 2.Per Motor = 2000 / 4 = 500g
Result:
500g Thrust / Motor

Frequently Asked Questions

What ratio should I use?

For general flying/filming, 2:1 is good. For racing, 4:1 or higher is common. Below 1.5:1, the drone will feel sluggish and hard to control.
