How to Use

Step-by-step instructions
  1. 1Select the original pan shape and size.
  2. 2Select the target pan shape and size.
  3. 3The calculator will show the scaling factor.
  4. 4This assumes pans have similar depth.

Area Ratio

Calculates the surface area of both pans to determine the scaling factor for ingredients.
Ratio = Target Area / Original Area

Variables:

Round Areapi x r^2
Square AreaSide^2

Example

9" Round to 8" Square

Inputs:

Original:9" Round
Target:8" Square

Steps:

  1. 1.Area 1 (9" Round) = pi x 4.5^2 = 63.6 sq in
  2. 2.Area 2 (8" Square) = 8 x 8 = 64 sq in
  3. 3.Ratio = 64 / 63.6 = 1.01
  4. 4.Result: almost identical, no change needed.
Result:
Ratio 1.01 (No change)

Frequently Asked Questions

What about baking time?

If the batter depth is the same, baking time should be similar. If the new pan makes the batter deeper, increase time and lower temperature slightly.
